The intense cold it generates about itself has created not only the frozen lake from which it rises but a tight ring of gradated climates wedged tight against each other, populated with alien flora and fauna.

The most powerful ones will fucking vaporize you in a spray of superheated bone-shrapnel and meat foam, but even the weaker ones can punch through armor very effectively, chewing through several feet of concrete or stone armor in a few seconds of sustained fire. Usually only specialized energy shielding can deflect these incredibly destructive projectiles.
